The technology is a low pin-count HD video and di*al audio interface optimized for connecting mobile phones and portable devices to HDTV’s, displays and other home entertainment products. The technology features a single-cable with a low pin-count interface able to support up to 1080p high-definition (HD) video and di*al audio while simultaneously providing power to the mobile device.

HD Video and Di*al Audio

Consumers will be able to view HD video content with up to 1080p picture quality and di*al audio from their mobile device on an HDTV while providing power to the mobile device.

Low Pin-Count Interface

HD video and di*al audio is enabled via a low pin-count interface while at the same time providing control and power which allows mobile devices to maintain their *all form factor and keep implementation costs low.

Provision of Power to the Mobile Device

Di*al HD content can be output from the mobile device over a single cable while power is simultaneously provided to the device. For example, a mobile phone can play back a full-length movie on an HDTV without draining power, so when the playback is completed the mobile phone can continue to be used for other purposes, such as calls and emails.

Content Protection

High-bandwidth Di*al Content Protection (HDCP) technologies protect high-value di*al motion pictures, television programs and audio against unauthorized interception and copying.

The intention is to have a mobile device with an MHL interface connect with HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort displays by the use of active cables, dongles and docks.

The-Cable-Store.com intends to stock MHL cables and dongles as soon as they are developed. At this stage it looks like mobile products that feature the MHL interface will appear on the market in 2011.
